Shingles Around Vent Pipe

correct-vent-pipe-flashing

In the photo to the left is an example of a vent pipe that is incorrectly flashed.  This can increase the chance of roof leakage.  The photo to the right, one will notice the bottom portion of  the metal flashing is exposed.  This is the correct way to install shingles around vent pipes on a roof.  The flow of water down the incline of the roof passes over the upper portion of the flashing, covered by shingles, and the lower portion of the flashing resting on top of the shingling. This ensures a leak-proof installation.
